TAEKWONDO

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind.

We specialize in teaching children starting at age 4 in our Little Warriors Program. Our intention is to make children feel good about themselves and be in physical and mental control. Our teaching methods support instilling the tenets that we build each program under: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.

We are proud to teach traditional combative style of Taekwondo that each student can apply in any self-defense situation.

WING CHUN

The Wing Chun concepts  consists of three primary elements, Structural Development Forms, or simply Forms, Reflex Development Drills, or Drills, and Tactical Development Drills, or Tactics. There are also two supplementary elements, Weapon Training and Equipment Training.

All of the Wing Chun techniques are first learned from the Forms and Drills. These sequences provide a safe and effective way to practice and polish the skills. It is important to note that the intent, focus, content, and sequence of movements for both Forms and Drills can change from lineage to lineage, or even from school to school. The most common curriculum framework includes three empty hand forms, one wooden dummy form, and two weapons forms.

The Drill progression generally moves from basic blocks, strikes, and trapping to various forms of sticking-hands and sticking-legs (chi sau and chi gerk) training drills, and finally to pre-arranged and then free-form sparring.

Our school is directly affiliated with West County Wing Chun under Sifu Dennis Moreland

INTEGRATED MARTIAL ARTS CLASS

This integrated class consists of the following arts: Filipino Martial Art (Kali - Eskrima and Jun Fan Gung Fu

Filipino Martial Arts - Kali is an ancient term used to signify martial arts in the region of the Philippines. In the Southern Philippines, it is called Kali-Silat. Silat refers to the movements of the lower body. Filipino stick fighting was entrenched in the island’s culture long before the Spanish arrived in 1521. When the Spanish arrived, they saw a wavy-edged sword about 30 inches long made of wood called a “Kalis.” During the Spanish occupation, they forbade the practice of Kali. The Spaniards called the art Eskrima or Arnis. That is why all three words are used to describe this art.

These Filipino martial arts place heavy emphasis on the use of weapons (single, double sticks, stick & dagger, dagger, staff, flexible weapons, etc.) as well as empty hands. The attributes of sensitivity, awareness, contact reflexes, footwork, coordination and many more are developed to a very high degree with this art. We teach a blend of Filipino systems such as the La Coste System, Balintawak (Ancion Bacon/Ted Buot method)

Jun Fan Gung Fu - The Jun Fan martial arts include the Gung-Fu and kickboxing methods developed by the late Bruce Lee. This art covers four major ranges of combat: kicking, punching, trapping and grappling.

Jeet Kune Do (“JKD”) is not a style onto itself. Rather, it is the system of philosophy and concepts developed by SiJo Bruce Lee and continued by Sifu Dan Inosanto. With Wing Chun at the core of his system, SiJo Bruce incorporated a modification of various techniques from Northern Praying Mantis, Southern Praying Mantis, Choy Li Fut, Eagle Claw, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Fencing, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, and some of the more refined kicks of the Northern & Southern Chinese styles.  Innovative and radically ahead of his time in his training and teaching methodology, SiJo Bruce developed a martial system and fighting strategy that has lost none of its effectiveness over time.

Emphasizing the “ranges of combat”, students are taught to confidently flow from long-distance kicking range to middle distance (“hand range”), to close quarters (“trapping & grappling range”). The movements are crisp and efficient, utilizing the most direct lines and angles.  JKD affords the practitioner a means by which to effectively pursue the most direct line of attack.  Once an attack has been launched there are no breaks or interruptions.  As one technique nears to completion, it starts to blend into the next and so forth; techniques become one continuous flowing motion until the conflict is resolved.

Jun Fan or Lee Jun Fan is the Chinese name of Bruce Lee. As a set curriculum, Jun Fan may be limited to specific techniques and training, while JKD has no such limitation.  While Jun Fan is one tool that can be used to train the principles and concepts of JKD, it is not the only one.
